This post is intended to be sent to all husbands and children asking what to get you for Mother’s Day!
It’s that time of year again when people are racking their brains and scrambling to get mom the “perfect” gift. The time of year when moms are treated like the queen she is when in reality she deserves this royal treatment every day! But hey, we will take ALL the love on this day dedicated to us!
CAN YOU GUESS THE NUMBER 1 ANSWER OF WHAT MOMS REALLY WANT IS?
Let’s get down to it! The moms of our MomChat Community on Instagram have spoken, and here are the top ten answers:
- Sleep
- House cleaned
- Meals cooked

- Planned girls night out / brunch
- Personalized gifts
Read on to see why and gift ideas for mom!
1. SLEEP
Yes, sleep! Did you guess correctly? When a mother becomes pregnant sleep becomes an enemy for most! From morning sickness to insomnia, newborn feedings to co-sleeping, transition to the crib and then to the big kid bed, nightly wakeups and nightmares – we are sleep deprived!! A night of uninterrupted sleep equals bliss. Gift mom some Cozy Pajamas, a Comfy Robe, and Slippers.
Bonus points let mom sleep in!
Tip for Dad: Take the kids out for an activity the night before mothers day and get the kids home just in time for their bedtime routine! They’ll be tired out and hopefully ready for goodnight’s sleep! And whatever you do, do not let them take the dreaded car nap on the way home! Yikes!
2. HOUSE CLEANED
Mama loves a clean house even though we all know it doesn’t stay tidy for very long – sigh! Surprise her with a fully cleaned home. It doesn’t even have to be deep cleaning, just make sure all the beds are made, everything is in its place, the dishes are done, and the house is smelling minty fresh! Small gestures are still very much appreciated. To take it up a notch you could splurge on a trusted cleaning service – that would be great too! Send mom out for lunch and she’ll be so surprised when she gets back!
3. HOMECOOKED MEAL
Moms are in charge of all the meals ALL the time!! Give mom the mental break of not thinking of what to cook, and the physical break of actually preparing the meal. Bonus points – cook on mother’s day and a few nights after as well! If hubby is not a cook don’t worry because Youtube can be his best friend. There are so many great and easy cast iron recipes. I have a lodge cast iron skillet that I got last year on mother’s day and I love it! (If you decide to purchase the skillet – you must grab the care kit) Going the extra mile and preparing and cooking a home-cooked meal instead of ordering takeout will leave a lasting impression on Mom!
4. ALONE TIME / ME TIME
“I love being a mom, but I don’t love every moment of motherhood.” This quote says it all… we love our children dearly with every ounce of our being, but we also need a damn break!! The mental load alone is enough to drive our burnout. Share the morning with mom and shower her with love quickly then take the kids out for the day and give mama a chance to fully relax! Leave her with a relaxing aroma from this great diffuser that I love!
Bonus points – leave mom with all of her favorite snacks and come back with a yummy dinner and her favorite dessert!
5. BREAKFAST IN BED
We are usually the first ones up to get everyone ready for the day and this includes breakfast. Give mom a break, let her sleep in, and serve her breakfast in bed. Make it cute! Use a bed tray, add a flower, heart-shaped pancakes or waffles, and a fruit salad. Be sure to include all of her favorites! Bonus points – let mom enjoy the meal in peace!
6. SPA DAY
Pamper mom with a well-deserved spa day, and not just a gift card to the spa an actual spa day. Plan ahead and book her an appointment. Be sure to do this early if you are aiming for the appointment to be on mother’s day weekend!
7. SOLO OVERNIGHT STAY
Mama needs a break! This option sounds like hitting the jackpot to me. A whole night and day of peace and quiet, no kids bickering, hearing yourself think, sleeping with no interruptions, sleeping in – what?!? I can go on but the list of reasons is already looking great. Book an overnight stay for mom at well-rated hotel with great room service and she’ll be all set! Don’t forget to send her off with a cute weekender bag.
8. THANK YOU NOTE OR VIDEO
Moms don’t hear thank you enough, and even though we receive our thank you’s through the love of our children, it is still nice to hear it and to feel appreciated and acknowledged for all that we do day in and day out. So, put a smile on her face and in her heart with a thank you note or video. Not only will it be special because the family is expressing their gratitude but also because it is something mom can always look back on or read. When mom is having a rough day this memento will cheer her up!
9. PLANNED GIRLS NIGHT OUT / BRUNCH
Life gets really busy for all of us which makes it hard to schedule and stick to the plans we attempt to make! Most of the time we reschedule at least once before finally meeting up. So, to make it easier for mom reach out to her closest friend(s) and see if you can set up a date and reservation for them to hang out kid-free.
Bonus points – get her a gift card to the restaurant.
10. PERSONALIZED GIFTS
The options are endless with this one! Anything personalized is so meaningful and something mom can keep forever. Ideas: coffee/tea mug, t-shirt, pajamas, water bottle, makeup bag, vase, picture frame, calendar, and so on. One of my favorite personalized sites to order from is Personalization Mall.
WHAT WILL YOU CHOOSE?
I recommend spoiling mom with at least 3 of the choices! She deserves it!
Motherhood is 24/7 – 365 days a year – so, what Mom really wants isn’t just one day, but year-round consistent support and encouragement! All of the above are great options to pamper mom with throughout the year to show your appreciation!
I hope all of your families have a wonderful mother’s day!
XOXO,
Mel
